NEW DELHI: In a bizarre incident in Preet Vihar in east Delhi, a man bit his neighbour, reportedly over 40 times, late on Friday night. The police have registered a case and arrested the accused, Jasmeer Singh (45).
According to the police, the victim, Jai Prakash Bansal(34), a lawyer and Singh's next door neighbour, claimed that the incident occurred when he tried to intervene in a family fight between Singh and his son. Singh was allegedly under the influence of alcohol, said the police.
The police said that Singh often got drunk and beat up his wife and children. Friday night was no different. "Singh was drunk and shouting at his son when his wife called Bansal for help," said a police officer. Police officials said that when Bansal tried to stop Singh, a fight developed between the two. It began with a verbal duel and then Singh allegedly took a knife and started running after Bansal.
"Bansal managed to get the knife out of Singh's hand and tried to stop him but Singh, still inebriated, bit Bansal several times all over his body," recounted an officer. The victim later called the police, after which he was taken to hospital for medical examination. The medical examination revealed revealed bite marks on the legs, face and stomach. The police have registered a case under section 323 (wrongful restraint) and 307 (attempt to murder) at Preet Vihar police station. Singh was arrested and later sent to judicial custody.
